The Most Formative Gap Year Imaginable

Growing up, I was always a high performer, in every arena of life (school, sports, extracurriculars). I didn’t really have a clear path, but rather just followed what I saw others doing, what I thought my parents hoped for me, and what was “right.” I got straight A’s through middle school and high school, played varsity sports, was a lead on the debate team, and was an Eagle Scout. I got into a top university and studied Mechanical Engineering. Then I graduated and didn’t have much of an idea of how the working / career world worked, nor what I wanted my path to be in it. It wasn’t until my mid twenties that I thoughtfully sought out mentors and crafted my vision and plan for my life—the resource to guide my trajectory. I would have benefitted hugely if I had done this sooner!

I am here to help young people become aware of the value of this type of thoughtful dreaming and planning, and then putting a strategy together, and building a team of advisors and cheerleaders (mentors) to help along the way.

My support takes the form of:

  • Designing gap year curriculums: jobs, industry and role exposures, connections to mentors, housing opportunities, host families

  • Bringing specificity to a dream or an interest, turning it into a concrete goal, then defining the path to get there. This could be a dream summer internship, or a plan to join the squash pro tour.

  • Developing a plan for how to make the most of college
